A Warrington resident is disappointed that after an absence of almost two years, boy racers have again ripped up the seaside village's domain by doing "donuts" in their cars.

Warrington resident Alistair Wright said the troublemakers kept away from the "well used" domain for almost two years since it was ringed with boulders to restrict access.

But last Friday night, the boy racers returned and once again made "a hell of a mess" of the domain.

The boulders were brought in after a public meeting was held to find solutions to an ongoing problem of boy racers doing donuts on the domain.

Mr Wright said more boulders might be needed, as there was a gap which may have allowed the boy racers to drive through.

Apart from making a mess of the domain and ruining it for other users, the boy racers also "terrorised" the Warrington community.

"The local people are scared when they hear the boy racers roaring round. They make a heck of a din."

The domain was 20 minutes from the nearest police station and the boy racers posted lookouts to warn them when police were on the way, he said.

Waikouaiti Coast Community Board chairman Gerard Collings said the issue would be brought up at the board's meeting next week, when options to keep boy racers away from the domain would be discussed.

He described the actions as "mindless vandalism".
