Pop-up community services could become a regular feature in Green Island.

"If there's a demand there we could possibly do this every week,'' Greater Green Island Community Network chairman Steve Hayward told The Star at the first of four planned monthly pop-up service events outside the Lighthouse Church in Main South Rd last Thursday.

Workbridge Dunedin employment consultant Sue Bragg was present on Thursday to discuss how the organisation could link disabled or ill people with employment opportunities.

There are three more pop-ups featuring service organisations planned over the coming months.

Nurses from Well South and Te Arai Te Uru Whare Hauora will provide free blood glucose checks and other services on April 27, staff from Community Law and the Dunedin Curtain Bank will attend on May 25 and from Civil Defence on June 29.

The pop-ups were all about "access and convenience'', Mr Hayward said.

There was no set target for the number of people who would access the services from the community pop-ups over the coming months, Mr Hayward said.

"There's no set figure. We just hope that people would use it and then if there's other ideas, other services that we haven't got it then we will try and make it happen for them.''

Greater Green Island Community worker Amanda Reid said the network was open to ideas for future pop-ups.

"We want to know what people want, what services they want out here. So we'll take any ideas from anyone.''
