Blaze near Taieri Mouth under control despite winds

Two helicopters and eight fire crews have brought a blaze near the Taieri Mouth under control, with the bush and gorse fire now in the hands of the landowner.

Fire crews from several different stations were called to the fire, near Dicksons Rd north of Kuri Bush, about 11am.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand communications shift manager Brent Dunn said by 1.20pm the fire had been brought under control, despite initial concerns about high winds on Sunday making the blaze worse.

The fire broke out in a gully and Mr Dunn said the cause was unknown.  No one was injured and there was no threat to housing, he said.

Fire crews were also attending a large riverbed fire at Rakaia River Rd, near Mount Hutt today.
