Vice-chancellor to be chosen in next few weeks

The next University of Otago vice-chancellor will be selected in the next few weeks.

"We continue to work through the selection process which is expected to be concluded in the next few weeks," a university spokeswoman said.

The university council would then make a formal decision and announce the appointment.

A "good number" of high-quality applications and expressions of interest were received during the advertising period and international search in January and February.

Shortlisting for the top role began in April, she said.

Prof Harlene Hayne, the university’s first female vice-chancellor, left in March to become vice-chancellor at Curtin University in Perth.

Prof Helen Nicholson was last year named acting vice-chancellor.
