The location for the new Dunedin hospital has been narrowed down to the central city.

After the Southern Partnership Group (SPG), led by Pete Hodgson, met today, the new hospital location site has been narrowed down to the north end of the city.

"We have narrowed the choice to just a few flat locations between the Octagon and the University," Mr Hodgson said.

This decision rules out other mooted locations such as Wakari Hospital and the old Carisbrook site, he said.

"Further analysis has been sought and we will also be talking to more key players over the coming weeks."

All affected land owners could be assured they would learn of any interest directly, he said.

The current hospital site was not on the list of possible locations, Mr Hodgson said.
