Taieri residents again have the chance to help make Christmas special for less fortunate children.

The Mosgiel Roundtable and Mosgiel Community Foodbank are combining and hoping to distribute 175 gifts to children in the area through a Wishing Tree Appeal.

Mosgiel Roundtable spokesman, Grant Gibson said a tree had been set up at the Mosgiel BNZ.

It was adorned with cards identifying who a gift was for - a girl aged 8, for example.

People could take a card and replace it with a suitable gift.

Children needing gifts this Christmas had been identified by the Mosgiel foodbank.

Mr Gibson said people could place gifts under the tree until December 15.

The Warehouse in Mosgiel was giving a 30% discount on gifts purchased for the tree.

The gifts would be distributed by the foodbank, together with food parcels assembled after last Monday night's food drive.

Mr Gibson said it was the second time the Mosgiel Roundtable had organised the event. Last year about 230 gifts were donated.
