A vintage car club member received a fitting farewell from Dunedin yesterday  with a high tea, period clothing, and - naturally - a period car.

Although describing herself as "a navigator", Fiona Munro will be missed by the Otago branch of the Vintage Car Club, members of which organised a get-together to mark her move to New Plymouth.

As part of the occasion, Ms Munro received one final ride in a car which she knows well - Eleanor Harrison’s 1936 Chrysler.

The vehicle has been in Ms Harrison’s family since being imported as a farm car for her grandfather’s property, near Gore.

Although in the past it has transported everything from sheep to 44 gallon drums, today the vehicle - restored 30 years ago - is restricted to around-town driving and the occasional vintage car rally.
