Seven new appointments have been made to the Otago and Southland Conservation Boards.

Otago board appointments: Philippa Agnew, a research scientist at the Oamaru blue penguin colony; Rosemary Clucas, a Dunedin consultant ecologist nominated by Ngai Tahu; Kimberley Collins, a Timaru science communicator and conservationist; Tara Druce, an Alexandra-based planning consultant.

Southland conservation appointees: Claire Jordan, a Tuatapere environmental scientist and planner; Estelle Pera-Leask, an environmental adviser nominated by Ngai Tahu; Shona Sangster, a former Stewart Island/Rakiura Community Environment Trust administrator, from Rakiura.

Their appointments were announced on Saturday as part of 57 board appointments nationally.

Conservation Minister Eugenie Sage noted 52% of appointees were women and 41% identified as Maori.

"I am thrilled to see such diversity coming across in the boards," Ms Sage said.

"I would also like to thank the outgoing representatives for their contribution to conservation in their region."
