Construction work has begun on a major rebuild of the Dunedin Botanic Garden's plant nursery and propagation facilities in Lovelock Ave.

The $6 million project includes the construction of a new propagation building, glasshouses, nursery and boiler house between the Opoho Bowling Club and the car park beside Opoho Park.

The relocation of the plant nursery and propagation facilities from the upper garden to the new site will allow, in the long term, other development opportunities in the upper garden.

The long-term development concept includes a new wetland garden, visitor centre and cafe.

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
