Remanded in custody on aggravated robbery charges

Two women charged with aggravated robbery with a firearm in Dunedin yesterday have been remanded without bail and given interim name suppression.

In the Dunedin District Court today it emerged police were looking for a third person involved in the incident.

The women, aged 31 and 38, were arrested and charged after armed police converged on a Maitland St property yesterday.

Police said the arrest followed an aggravated robbery at a residential address in St Kilda earlier that day.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Anthony Bond said in court police opposed bail.

One person was still at large following the incident.

Court documents showed the pair  robbed four people of cash while armed with a firearm.

One of the women shook her head as the charges were read.

Duty solicitor Noel Rayner asked justices of the peace Russell Atkinson and Alison Jameson for interim suppression for the women as the incident was ``so fresh''.

That was granted, and the pair were remanded in custody until their next court appearance on Friday.
