A hearse leaves the funeral of North Taieri brother and sister Shannon and Danielle Kiriau this afternoon.

Hundreds paid their respects to North Taieri brother and sister Shannon and Danielle Kiriau today.

The crowd of more than 500 spilled out of the Campbell and Sons Chapel, in Mosgiel, and into the street.

Numbers were so large that police were required to divert traffic following the funeral.

Shannon (22) and Danielle (17) died after the car they were passengers in crashed on the Southern Motorway early on Sunday.

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
