Staff at a Musselburgh Rise store in Dunedin have been left shaken after an armed robbery last night.

A police spokesman said emergency services were called the Musselburgh Food Centre just before 8pm.

Security cameras in the store captured images of the offenders with one holding what appears to be a hand gun.

Police believe there was another offender in the store, probably a female.

Police are appealing for any information about the robbery and are encouraging anyone offered cut price tobacco or cigarettes to notify Dunedin police.

Three police cars were at the scene, and a dog unit was deployed about 8.30pm.

The offenders are thought to be still at large.

While nobody was hurt in the incident, the owners were shaken by the experience.

People on social media said armed police could be seen in the area.
