Arrest in Alexandra after shoplifting in Dunedin

A 51-year-old man has been charged with shoplifting following an investigation into several incidents in Dunedin recently.

Police said it executed a search warrant at an address in Alexandra and charged the man with three counts of shoplifting.

Sergeant Derek Ealson said it was not acceptable behaviour and caused financial damage to the retailers.

“Police and retailers can't prevent opportunistic crime alone and rely on the help of the community to stop this illegal activity and the social harm it causes.

“We encourage members of the public to report suspicious behaviour in and around shops and malls to a member of staff, security or police to prevent retail theft,” Sgt Ealson said.

The man is due to appear in the Alexandra District Court on November 13.
