Mornington burglary and theft warning

Criminals continue to target the Mornington area in Dunedin, prompting police to remind residents to secure their property.

Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen said there had been more thefts and burglaries in Dunedin hill suburb during the weekend.

The latest thefts followed a similar theme so it was likely a person or group was targeting the area, Snr Sgt Dinnissen said.

"Once they've got easy pickings they just keep going back, so making sure everything is secure is the trick.''

Tools had being stolen from building sites, cars were being broken into and money and other items such as laptops were being stolen.

The article implies that victims at fault? No, our justice system does not work and burglars know they have less than 1 in 10 chance of being caught and less odds being sentenced. And once sentenced (if they are ever caught) they are given pathetically easy sentences.
