Police have released photos of two men they are seeking in relation to a serious assault in Dunedin at the weekend.

The apparent unprovoked assault happened about 2.45am on Saturday outside Rodgers House at the intersection of Princes and Dowling Sts.

Following the incident, the two alleged assailants were seen to run south down Princes St towards Queens Gardens.

The victim was taken to hospital in a serious condition. 

Police said today they wanted would like to hear from the men shown in the photos,  or from anyone who could identify them.
