Victim fights off alleged kidnappers

A man and woman have been arrested after they allegedly tried to kidnap a person in North Dunedin on Saturday evening, before the victim managed to fight off the assailants and flee to safety.

Detective Jenepher Glover, of Dunedin, said a member of the public reported the incident, in Duke St, about 6.50pm.

"The victim fought the pair of offenders off and escaped to safety."

Det Glover said the victim sustained minor injuries in the incident.

The alleged offenders, both aged 29, were arrested yesterday morning and are due to appear in the Dunedin District Court tomorrow on charges of kidnapping and assault with intent to injure.

Police thanked members of the public for helping with their investigation before the arrests.
