Witnesses to serious attack in Dunedin sought

Dunedin police are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously hurt in an early-morning assault in the central city.

Police say they received a report about 2.45am today that a man had been assaulted by two other men in "an apparent unprovoked attack" outside Rodgers House at the intersection of Princes and Dowling Sts.

The pair were seen to run south down Princes St towards Queens Gardens.

The victim was taken to hospital by St John ambulance in a serious condition, where he is now recovering.

An investigation into the assault is under way and police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the incident or who has information.
