Aart on St Andrew stylist Kelsey Lyons holds a trophy and scissors she won for coming first in the Le Male, and third in the Next Generation, categories of the New Zealand Association of Registered Hairdressers 2011 Editorial Stylist of the Year Awards, in Wellington at the weekend.
The competition challenged hairdressers to create an editorial photograph forecasting the upcoming season, suitable for the cover of a magazine.
It incorporated clothing and make-up, but hair was the main focus. It was Miss Lyons' first entry in a photographic competition and she was "pretty surprised" with the win.
"It's amazing, really," she said.
More than 300 entries were submitted. The awards are considered one of the largest motivational hairdressing events in New Zealand.
Fifteen regional winners were also announced.
Jaimee Smith, of Zaibatsu, took the top honour for Otago.
