A Dunedin City Council contractor trims vegetation growing on the cliff face above Shore St yesterday.

During the next five weeks, contractors will use abseiling equipment to inspect and map the cliffs above Marne and Shore Sts.

They will assess the risk of rockfalls which could affect the roads below and make sure any loose material is cleared from the cliff faces.

DCC transport delivery manager Josh von Pein said the project would involve clearing some vegetation, removing loose soil from the edge of the cliff and taking off any unstable rocks so the contractors could work safely and effectively.
