By-election in Strath Taieri

A new member could be elected to the Strath Taieri Community Board by Christmas.

The date for a by-election to the board has been set, following the resignation of Bevan Dowling.

Voting would close on December 20, Dunedin City Council strategy and governance general manager Sandy Graham said.

Preliminary results were expected on the day, but it could be several days later before official results were declared.

Dowling resigned from the board earlier this month after being convicted last month for assaulting a woman.

Ms Graham said nominations would open on September 26 and close on October 24. Voting papers would be sent out on November 28.

Nothing in local governance law precluded Dowling from standing for the seat again.
