Free parking for Christmas shoppers

The Dunedin City Council is getting into the festive spirit by offering free parking in the CBD for two days before Christmas.

The free parking would apply at close to 300 on-street carparks on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 December, Peter Hanlin, Team Leader – Compliance, Animal and Parking Services, said.

Mr Hanlin said it was being offered ''in the spirit of Christmas'', and parking officers would ride reindeer scooters and carry Santa sacks with lollies to hand out to children as well.

The free parking would apply to on-street meters marked with a sticker, and people would have to adhere to maximum time limits.

If a vehicle overstayed an infringement notice would still be issued.
