Possible new archive site

A better site for Dunedin City Council archives may have been found.

The Archives and Records Association of New Zealand has long had reservations about records being kept in the Civic Centre basement, because of the potential for leaks from pipes in the storage area.

The archival facility could be relocated to the upper basement of the central city public library.

Members of the Otago and Southland branch of the records association have not yet visited the area to assess its suitability, but they told a city council annual plan hearing yesterday they were hopeful the site would be suitable.
