Contractors working for the Dunedin City Council install new concrete kerbs on upper Stuart St yesterday.

The $500,000 council upgrade is timed to coincide with Aurora's larger project to install a new power cable under the road.

That would include landscaping the median strip with trees and shrubs, as well as new kerb and channelling.

DCC transport group manager Richard Saunders said contractors had already poured new kerbs from the Kaikorai Valley Rd intersection up to the Highgate bridge, and were now working down to Moana Pool.

Once the kerbs were completed, contractors would reinstate the asphalt and complete the planting and placement of rocks within the new centre median, he said.

The work was ''progressing well'' and scheduled to finish late next month.
