Drink-driving after rugby disappoints

Dunedin police are disappointed several drivers were caught drunk at the wheel following Saturday night’s rugby test in the city.

Police were generally happy with the behaviour of the crowd at the Bledisloe Cup test between the All Blacks and the Wallabies at Forsyth Barr Stadium. And the behaviour of revellers in town following the match provided few headaches.

However, Senior Sergeant Ben Butterfield hit out at the four motorists caught drink-driving at a police checkpoint in Cumberland St following the test.

"It’s disappointing that people were out drink-driving and it’s disappointing for us that people continue to take that risk," he said.

It was unclear how many of the four had come from the match, but the party atmosphere in the city was no excuse for the behaviour.
