Driver hits disabled car

Strike may have caused a 49-year-old Dunedin woman to crash into a broken-down car on State Highway 1 as she travelled north towards the city yesterday.

The woman told police she could not see the car, which had been left in the northbound lane of the motorway near Lookout Point after breaking down.

Senior Sergeant Mel Aitken said the woman was shocked but not seriously injured.

The occupants of the disabled car had flagged a ride into the city and arranged for the vehicle to be moved.

Both cars were towed away after the 9am collision.

Northbound traffic was merged into a single lane while the site was cleared.
