Dunedin music scene mentor, record shop owner, columnist and writer Roy Colbert died yesterday.

Mr Colbert ran music store Records Records in Stuart St, and became Dunedin distributor for Flying Nun recordings.

He was an important figure as a mentor for Dunedin Sound bands, and was behind a Dunedin Symphony Orchestra production of that music which filled the Dunedin Town Hall in 2015.
Mr Colbert died after a period of ill health.

I didn't know Roy but I feel like I did. His column was the highlight of Tuesdays paper for me and he always made me laugh. Very sad news.
