Dunedin woman found after night in open

An 80-year-old woman with Alzheimer's disease was lucky she struck a warm night to go walkabout, police said.

"Potentially, the weather might have played a part," Sergeant Dave Scott said after Gladys Pocklington was found on a Mornington property just after 8am yesterday, more than 12 hours after she went missing from her home in Forbury Rd, Caversham.

Residents of a Neidpath Rd house found the woman on their property and rang emergency services.

Uninjured and in good health, Mrs Pocklington was taken to Dunedin Hospital for a check up.

LandSAR volunteers and police search and rescue staff searched for the woman on Sunday night until it was too dark to continue and were preparing to resume the search yesterday when she was found.

Police search and rescue officer Constable Phil Beckwith said the woman, who was living in a residential home in Forbury Rd, had previously lived in the Mornington area.
