End in sight for SciCity

Otago Museum's popular virtual city, SciCity, an Internet-based learning tool, is coming to an end.

Museum organisers said the SciCity site, launched in 2007, had proved highly successful, gaining more than 16,000 membership sign-ups and 130,000 visits, but would end on October 31.

SciCity was created by the museum's Discovery World science centre, with backing from IBM New Zealand, ZeDDD Technology and the Government's Digital Strategy Community Partnership Fund.

Museum programmes director Helen Horner said SciCity - which still could be visited at www.otagomuseum.govt.nz - was a "highly innovative product" which had been fun, challenging and educational for young people.
