The 15-year-old Taieri College pupil was admitted to the Children's Ward to receive treatment at the weekend.
Joshua said he was feeling quite poorly, even after a lot of attention from medical staff, but when English rugby players Richard Wigglesworth, Stephen Myler and Michael Paterson turned up at his bedside, the smile returned to his face.
''I didn't think my day would be like this when I woke up this morning.''
Despite being an avid rugby fan and All Blacks supporter, Joshua revelled in the prestigious sporting company.
To make the day even more memorable, Joshua was given one of the team's red and white T-shirts as a memento of the occasion.
''It's not the right colour, but it's pretty cool, them being here,'' he said, as he tried to put the T-shirt on, with his mother's help.
