The Mosgiel Volunteer Fire Brigade was called to the scene about 11.30am after a Nova Gas driver narrowly avoided the falling branch.
Brigade career crew officer Martin Jansen (pictured) monitored the site.
A New Zealand Fire Service spokesman said members of the public used a hand saw to partly clear the road before the brigade arrived.
