Fabulous fashion is on display as Wingatui Racecourse puts on a show for its Melbourne Cup race meeting today.

A reasonable crowd had built up by 2.30pm and there were few displays of drunkenness, with only the occasional person wobbling as they walked.

Sergeant Kevin Davidson said it had been a "pretty quiet" start to the day and people were behaving well.

Otago Racing Club chief executive Hannah Catchpole said the day was going well and she was impressed by the fashion on show.

Some of the attendees looked a little cold in their outfits.
