Port to Port Cruises and Wildlife Tours owner-operator Rachel McGregor said she planned to buy a 14-seater bus to pick up tourists from the Octagon, take them on a short tour around the city and out to Portobello where they could board MV Sootychaser, a custom-built vessel designed for wildlife cruises and harbour crossings.
While the tourists enjoyed the 90-minute wildlife cruise on the harbour, the bus would return to the Octagon, pick up more tourists and transport them to meet Sootychaser at Back Beach in Port Chalmers, to begin the tour in the opposite direction, she said.
Ms McGregor hoped the tours would be available for tourists for the start of the 2019-20 tourist season in October.
She started providing ferry crossings between Portobello and Back Beach, Port Chalmers last September, making it the first ferry service to operate on Otago Harbour in more than 60 years.
