First visit for Scandinavian cruise vessel

Cruise ship passengers on Viking Orion who were out of bed just after 6am were treated to a colourful sunrise as they entered Otago Harbour yesterday.

The Scandinavian ship is making its maiden porting to Australia and New Zealand, and docked in Dunedin yesterday as part of its Australia and New Zealand itinerary.

Having departed from Hobart, the ship's 930 guests spent the day in Dunedin, before the ship sailed for Lyttelton.

The ship has a 7500-litre infinity pool, a planetarium and a snow grotto, and offers passengers the chance to get acquainted with the Scandinavian bathing ritual of hot/cold therapy in its Nordic spa.

It comes with 550 crew.
