Flight disrupted by wind; diverted to Chch

An Air New Zealand jet from Auckland (NZ675) was diverted to Christchurch after two failed attempts to land at Dunedin Airport yesterday.

Dunedin Airport marketing general manager Megan Crawford said the diversion was caused by strong winds at Dunedin Airport about 2.20pm.

The MetService reported wind gusts up to 80kmh at the airport between 2pm and 3pm.

Because of the diversion, the outgoing flight (NZ674) on the aircraft was cancelled. Passengers were rebooked on alternative flights.

Flights on ATR-72 and Q300 turbo-prop aircraft had minor delays, but were not cancelled, she said.
