Dai Henwood brings his show Rocks Or Daimonds to the Dunedin Fringe Festival.

Could you describe your act?

My act is high energy, dancing, meditation and a comment on everything you don’t need to know.

Why should people come to your show?

People should come to my show to learn a bit about themselves as New Zealanders, but mainly just to switch off and have a laugh for an hour.

As a representative of all people in the North Island, what do people there think of Dunedin?

Well Dunedin has escaped the stereotypes of the South Island for North Islanders. I think people think of Dunedin a little like a Wellington. Quirky music scene, good bars and really cool. We always have a really good time. Sometimes we don’t have good times in places.

My girlfriend says you have a mouth like the guy on the Poppa Jacks chip packet. Do you have a comment on this?

No-one has ever said that to me. Weirdly, my dairy is the only dairy I’ve seen them at. They do exist. Now I’m going to buy a packet of Poppa Jacks and Photoshop his mouth on to my face.

Can I say thank you to your girlfriend, but also that it’s mildly disturbing that she’s looked at my mouth that closely?

What is your favourite spice and why?

My favourite spice is pretty bog standard. It’ll be cinnamon. I put it in everything. I put it in my coffee, I put it on cereal, even put a little bit in bolognaise. My most hated, which I have to say because I hate this more than I like my cinnamon, is star anise. It’s so angry and pretentious and people think they’re making something so good, but they’re just ruining good food.

Is there a particular product you’d like to advertise?

Shakti Mats. They’re like a modern bed of nails that you lie on. It’s like an acupressure mat. I would advertise those because I’m into really weird meditation-type things.

● Dai Henwood’s Rocks Or Daimonds is on tonight at 8 o’clock at the Fortune Theatre.
