Some Otago Peninsula residents opposed closing Highcliff Rd for the event but they were not supported by the local community board, and yesterday the Dunedin City Council agreed unanimously and without debate to allow the various road closures requested for the rally.
Cr John Bezett said the event was potentially very good for the city and while there would be some inconvenience, ‘‘nothing would ever happen if you listened to everyone opposed to something''.
