Forget the roar of rugby crowds, Kevin Moylan and 1200 of his mates are more interested in the rumble of their Harley Davidson motorbikes.

The Harley Owners Group (Hog) Deep South Kiwi Chapter member has been planning the club's 22nd national rally for the past two years, and cannot wait to see more than 800 bikes flood Dunedin for the event.

"It's going to be quite a sight," he said.

New Zealand's six Hog chapters, along with Australian and German contingents, will descend on the city from February 17 to 19.

Based at the Lion Foundation Arena, the rally will include members-only events, such as guided rides, as well as public displays, including stunts and tricks. A "thunder ride" is planned for the Saturday.

"People will come from all over the place to view the thunder ride. It's the noise and the chrome and the buzz," he said.

The rally would be "huge" for Dunedin in terms of promotion and tourism and the group was "absolutely fizzing".
