Confident children covered

The rollout of Covid-19 vaccinations for 5 to 11-year-olds is not expected to cause any resourcing issues in the South.

The Government this week said vaccinations for that age group would begin on January 17.

It will not be mandated for children.

Southern Covid-19 vaccine programme lead Karl Metzler said there were about 28,000 people in that age bracket in the South.

"We’re confident that the Southern area is well-placed to roll out the vaccine to this age group, with more than 110 providers across the district."

The health board would continue to use outreach clinics and targeted events, like the Southern Farmgate Tour, to make it as easy as possible for families and children to access the vaccine, he said.
