The Southern District Health Board's head of planning and funding, Sandra Boardman, has resigned.

Mrs Boardman has been appointed to a senior management position at the Whangarei District Council.

In a statement, DHB acting chief executive Chris Fleming said Mrs Boardman would be ''greatly missed for her intelligence, humour and in-depth understanding of the health environment''.

Mrs Boardman will leave the board next March after three years at the DHB.

Her role involves overseeing the DHB's community contracts, including rural hospitals and aged care providers. It also involves planning how much care to provide in the community, and how much to provide in hospital.

The board is also recruiting a chief executive. An announcement on that appointment is now expected late next month, after a delay in the process.

Three Years- you can hardly come to terms with the place. I saw her at SDHB meetings and like the now departed CEO thought she would be a short term career hopper. We need people like the previous matrons and medical supers who lasted for years and cared about the community they lived in.

People have made career moves ever since there were careers. It's alright for we below the Waitaki to expect admins to stay with the hospital forever and a day, but life's not like that. Good luck.
