Kirsten Tallon-McCarthy (6) investigates Zeal Steel during the first weekend of the Dunedin Heritage Festival.

The festival began on Friday.

Co-ordinator Ann Barsby said she had been "very gratified" by the numbers  attending over the weekend.

More than 100 turned out to see inside the Loan and Mercantile Building by the waterfront, and buildings open to the public at Pukehiki had "constant drop-ins" yesterday.

The festival runs until October 23.
