The countless nappy changes, the nine months of uncomfortable sleeps and the 38 hours of painful labour were some of the topics that were talked about on Mother’s Day.

Dunedin woman Kara Tanimatuku’s fiance, who lives in Dubai, treated her and her daughters, Lucy and Ako Navara, to high tea at Larnach Castle.

She said the event made the day feel extra special this year.

"The girls have never experienced high tea, so it’s really good for them to experience it for the first time.

"It makes me feel really special with them by my side."

The girls previously were not tea drinkers but it might be their new favourite activity with their mum after yesterday, Mrs Tanimatuku said.

"It’s kind of nice to see her actually enjoying tea. I think it’s because of the setup."

They had finished about four or five cups of tea.

Along with the tea, the catering included mini scones with jam and cream, a variety of sandwiches and some sweet treats.

There were about 70 people at the event.
