Repairs to Highcliff Rd are on track to be completed before the work on Portobello Rd begins, the city council has confirmed.
Dunedin City Council transport delivery manager Josh von Pein said the DCC was ‘‘planning a programme’’ of slip repairs and safety improvements along Highcliff Rd, the details of which should be available early next week.
Community concern over the roading repairs comes after the recent council announcement it would begin work on the next stage of the Portobello Rd cycleway project in October.
Otago Peninsula Community Board chairman Paul Pope raised concerns with The Star earlier this month after the announcement that the cycleway project would proceed, even after a budget increase from $20 million to $49 million.
Mr Pope said the Highcliff Rd repairs needed to be completed before the cycleway roadworks began in October, as there was already limited access for peninsula residents to get into town.
Mr von Pein confirmed the council’s Highcliff Rd work programme was being designed so repairs could be completed by the end of September.
He said the work involved fixing three slip sites, installing wire rope and timber guardrails and improving drainage along Highcliff Rd.
