Otago Boys' High School pupil Nathan Hanna (17) stands in the flume at the University of Otago School of Physical Education's Heat Lab, where fellow pupils listen to Dr Jim Cotter talk about how different temperatures affect the abilities of different body systems.

Nathan was one of about 30 year 13 biology pupils from the school who were taken through practical demonstrations of thermoregulation as part of their homeostasis module.
