The book reading sessions have become a popular weekly ritual for the information centre.
As many as 28 children, and their parents, have attended on some Tuesday mornings.
''It's just great to see people of all ages coming in and enjoying the place,'' information centre officer Clare Fraser said.
Mrs Rennie has a background in drama and children's literacy and the botanic garden was lucky to have her volunteer her time, Mrs Fraser said.
The information centre itself is run by volunteers in a partnership between garden staff and the community group, Friends of the Dunedin Botanic Garden.
The reading sessions are part of a five-year plan by garden staff to advance the information centre as a community hub.
''We want the centre to be a destination for people who enter the garden,'' she said.
Ms Fraser said the centre had plans to hold more events later in the year, including screening documentaries from Natural History New Zealand.
