A university of Otago manager, Emerson Pratt, has won an inaugural Microsoft innovation award for an "Otago Interlinking" project that provides video-conference links between lecture theatres at the university's Dunedin, Christchurch and Wellington campuses.
Mr Pratt, who has a BCom from Otago, is the manager of information technology services teaching and learning facilities at the university.
The video-conferencing system was deployed for less than one-tenth of the cost of a commercial system, university officials said.
Mr Pratt and his team received a trophy and a $2500 cash prize.
