Dunedin people received honours from Governor-General Dame Patsy Reddy at their investitures in Wellington yesterday.

Patricia Broad was made a Member of the Order of Merit for services to gymnastics and Dianne Smeehuyzen was also made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to brass band.

Prof Philippa Howden-Chapman, of the University of Otago in Wellington, was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to public health.

Eight investiture ceremonies are being held this week to officially celebrate recipients named in the 2021 New Year’s Honours list.

Among the recipients today will be Dunedin television producer and businessman Sir Ian Taylor, who has been recognised with a knighthood for his service to broadcasting, business and the community.

A total of 154 people will be recognised for a significant achievement or for serving their community.
