Contractors erect scaffolding in the Water of Leith under the Leith St footbridge, in Dunedin, yesterday.

The course of the water has been diverted to the north side of the riverbed.

Otago Regional Council engineering, hazards and science director Gavin Palmer said work began on the Information Technology Services (ITS) building site in March last year and was scheduled to be completed in October.

''The project has been focused on the raising and reinforcement of the right bank wall, widening of the channel on the left bank and construction of terraces under the ITS building.''
