Maserati speedster nabbed after phone call

The driver of a Maserati attracted plenty of attention yesterday, and even picked up a souvenir courtesy of police.

Police received a complaint about a Maserati being driven at excessive speeds north of Dunedin just before 3pm.

After that *555 call, the late-model vehicle was pulled over just south of Waikouaiti after it was clocked at 131kmh, Constable Lesley Eason said.

The driver, a company director, was issued with an infringement notice.

Const Eason thanked the member of the public for reporting the driving, which resulted in a successful stop for police.
