Contractors have made steady progress replacing a retaining wall in Dunedin’s Town Belt. The old wall, above an old tennis court at the intersection of Maori Rd and Serpentine Ave, Mornington, was subsiding. Maori Rd is due to be closed to traffic until mid-April so the work can be carried out. Dunedin City Council transport group manager Jeanine Benson has said the $300,000 project would ensure the safety of the road and footpath above the wall.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
