Otago Daffodil Day co-ordinator Emma Ramsay Brown said the Cancer Society had a "fantastic day out on the street" and she was confident of a good collection.
"It’s always hard to gauge but I think things have gone pretty well," she said.
The society usually collected about $250,000 in the region, though it was too early to estimate this year’s effort.
All of the money that was raised in Otago would be used here, she said.
People could still donate online and today volunteers would be collecting at the Otago Farmers Market and be based at the Edgar Centre and several supermarkets from 10am-2pm.
